This past nine weeks we have learned so much. One of the things that we learned that I had fun with was hurricanes. Hurricanes are to me a truly fascinating subject. There’s so many things to learn. One of the cool facts about my subject is that if the wind speed is over 74mph then it is a hurricane. Another cool fact about hurricanes are that they can be called different things in different parts of the world, like typhoons cyclones and finally hurricanes.Hurricanes are categorized in numbers, 1 being the weakest and 5 being the strongest.I look forward to learning more about hurricanes.

My topic is the water cycle. I learned that first the water evaporates, then it condenses, after that the water precipitates, next the water runs off, then it soaks into the ground, next the water gets sucked up by the plants, then the plant transpirates.

I want to talk about hurricanes. Hurricanes are storms that have winds from 75 to 155 miles per hour. At first hurricanes start off as tropical depressions off the coast of Africa and have winds from 0 to 38 miles per hour. Then if it gets stronger it becomes a tropical storm and gets a name. A tropical storm has winds from 39 to 74 miles per hour. Then after a tropical storm it becomes a hurricane. The hurricane starts off as a category 1 and can reach a category 5 hurricane. This is all rated on the Saffir-Simpson scale. That is my paragraph on a nine weeks topic.

Hurricanes

I learned that a hurricane has an eye, eyewall, and the rain bands, and that the eye is calmest, and the eyewall is the fiercest. I also learned that hurricanes are fueled by warm water and that the hurricane starts as a tropical disturbance. I learned that hurricanes are called different names in different oceans. That is what I learned about hurricanes.

The water cycle is the process where water is transferred up into the atmosphere and back to the Earth. The steps in order is evaporation or transpiration (water heating up and forming into a gas); condensation (the gass cools and turns into a liquid forming clouds); precipitation (the cloud grows heavy and rain, snow, sleet or hail falls down); runoff (water flowing back into water); and extra things like going into groundwater, assessing aquifer, or plant uptake.

This nine weeks we learned about the water cycle. We saw how water evaporates and condenses to form clouds and falls as precipitation. It can also go into the ground to form ground water. once it is on the ground it becomes runoff and starts the cycle over again. That is one of the things that we learned this nine weeks.

the water cycle.

The water cycle is never ending.I liked the water cycle because the steps are easy to rember. The song is in my head most of the time.I think you thught it to me relly good so that I could understand it,when I first learned it in 3rd grade I didn’t understand it as much, but now I do.

the steps

1.condsation 2.preciptation 3.runoff 4.evaporation 5.transspiration 6.evaporation 7.infiltration to groundwater 8.plant uptake 9.assessing aquifer

What I learned that was interesting aere, Now I know that there are four main layers (Troposphere, Stratosphere,Mesosphere, and Thermosphere) and some layers inside the layers. something that I didn’t learn before was the atmosphere layers. I recognized the difference between them, what they do, and the order. Before we started I never even learned about space/Earth but now I can name them easily.

9. M.T.M - September 29, 2011

I learned about the atmosphere in science.

I learned that the atmosphere has alot of gases the surround the earth and help humans live. It also stops meteors from hitting us by burning up in the mesosphere. In the troposphere, it helps us by giving rain to plants so we can breathe and eat.The stratosphere helps us due to it’s ozone layer that helps absorb dangerous ultra-violet light. Finally the thermosphere, even though it doesn’t seem to have any use by itself, is still useful for putting satelittes in.
